| Description | This June 2026 update provides an overview about the geothermal collaborative process including information we gathered at public workshops and other outreach efforts as well as preliminary recommendations for early consideration. A final legislative report is due June 30, 2027, and will include factors that may influence site suitability such as potential impacts, mitigation strategies, geologic characteristics and proximity to electrical transmission infrastructure. It will also include an analysis of gaps in local, state and federal regulations. Combined, these reports are designed to provide a framework for understanding opportunities, challenges and considerations associated with developing utility-scale geothermal energy in Washington. | ||||
