Description The Washington State Department of Ecology’s Office of Columbia River (OCR) is tasked with developing water supplies across the Basin to meet a range of competing instream and out-of-stream demands, now and in the future. This Long-Term Water Supply and Demand Forecast is intended to guide OCR’s efforts. Past Forecasts have provided a valuable, quantitative resource to help understand what the future could hold and inform efforts to enhance the resilience of our water sources and of our communities.
The 2026 Forecast builds on our robust and well-established understanding of expected future changes in surface water supplies and the main out-of-stream demands, gained through the 2021 Forecast. This 2026 Forecast pivots towards understanding important drivers of changes in supplies and demands that either have not yet been fully quantified or have emerged since 2021.
