SeaPort Sound Terminal; SeaPort Sound proposes installing four new rail spurs with transfer equipment through the central and eastern side of the Project property extending from the existing Tacoma Rail railroad track that runs adjacent to Taylor Way, to support similar activities as currently occur at the property. Installing the new rail spurs will add 32 transfer locations, which will reduce the number of rail car switches onto and off of the Project property from Taylor Way. Existing LPG truck transfer will be relocated to a new location east of the new rail spurs. The purpose of installing four new rail spurs is to optimize rail operations and improve overall operational efficiency. Adding the rail spurs streamlines rail switching and facility operations, allows for access to other properties along Taylor Way during transfer operations, and reduces traffic impacts.
The Site is currently used by SeaPort Sound as a rail and truck transfer facility. Three existing rail spurs on the west side of the site, are used to transfer various light and heavy petroleum and renewable fuels products. These products are transferred through existing underground pipelines. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is also loaded/unloaded from trucks and rail from existing tanks near NW corner of property. Existing rail spurs on site provide storage and transfer for ~36 rail cars.
