The site was the location of a former service station. In August 1991, two underground storage tanks (USTs--one 3,000-gallon tank regular gasoline and one 3,000-gallon unleaded gasoline--were decommissioned and removed. The USTs were noted to have been in good shape with no obvious signs of holes.
During the excavation, petroleum contaminated soil (PCS) was observed near UST #2. Soil samples near UST #2 showed petroleum contamination above state cleanup levels.
Contaminated soil was not removed during the initial UST removal. About two months later, approximately 8 cubic yards of PCS was removed and landfarmed.
In 2019, an Ecology contractor conducted sampling that showed no more contamination remained above state cleanup levels.
