Cleanup Complete
Ecology removed the NW Pipeline Medical Lake site from the Hazardous Sites List in 2012. The site is used to house a meter station that regulates and meters distribution of natural gas to local customers. In 1990, an assessment of the site found mercury in soil outside the meter station. The main source of the contamination was most likely from releases of mercury during maintenance of equipment. The level of mercury in soil required cleanup.
Five drums of gravel and soil were removed from under and around the former meter stand and work desk. A total of nearly 93 tons of soil were removed and transported for disposal off-site. Follow-up sampling showed all contaminated soil was removed, and no further cleanup is required.
