Hazardous Sites List

A Site Hazard Assessment conducted in August 2019 ranked the Site as a ‘2’ using the Washington Ranking Method in which a ‘1’ represents the highest risk relative to all other Washington state sites and a ‘5’ represents the lowest risk.

Contamination

The sources of contamination on the Property are former dip tanks at Northwest Plating (where degreasing was conducted), metal plating equipment, and chemicals used in the metal plating and anodizing operations.  Chlorinated solvents used in degreasing operations (including PCE and TCE and metals related to the plating operations) were released to soil.

A release also occurred on the Perine parcel from historic machine shop operations which affected shallow soils on that portion of the Site.  The identified releases consisted of TCE and metals only; the former use of PCE is not documented on this parcel.

Chemicals Of Concern

  • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including tetrachloroethene (PCE), trichloroethene (TCE), cis-1,2-dichloroethene (cis-DCE) and vinyl chloride (VC) in soil and groundwater.
  • Cadmium, hexavalent chromium, nickel and zinc in soil and ground water.
  • Cyanide in soil and groundwater.
  • Methylene chloride in soil.

Voluntary Cleanup Program

This site is in our Voluntary Cleanup Program, which provides technical help to owners of contaminated sites.

Voluntary Cleanup Program customers pay fees to cover our costs for technical help and reviewing cleanup reports. Sites in this program must meet the same cleanup standards as sites Ecology manages under legal orders.
