Site Description

The Deer Trail Mine is located 6 miles east of Fruitland, Washington. Mining activities occurred at the site from as early as 1884 to 1984. The site consists of a series of mine adits and the remnants of a former ore concentrating mill.

What's Been Done

Ecology completed a screening investigation of water and sediment quality at the site in 2002. Results of the investigation indicated that sediments downstream of the mine contain elevated concentrations of arsenic, lead, and zinc. In 2004, Ecology completed a Preliminary Assessment narrative report that summarizes environmental concerns related to the site.

Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) completed a site characterization report as part of DNR's effort to build a database of major mines in the state.
