Site Description
The Port of Port Angeles (port) and Chevron are cleaning up the Pettit Oil site as part of the Marine Trades Area site. For current information on the cleanup, visit the Marine Trades webpage.
In 2005, Ecology entered into an agreed order (agreement) with the port and Chevron. Under the agreed order, the Marine Trades Area site includes:

- The Marine Trade area, an area where mostly marine-related trades such as boat building or repair currently occur.
- The former Chevron bulk plant south of Marine Drive, known today as Pettit Oil.
Site Contamination
Soil and groundwater at the Marine Trades Area site (including the Pettit Oil site) are contaminated with pollutants from several bulk fuel plants. Over years, the bulk fuel plants leaked petroleum from their tank and piping systems. Contaminants found above state cleanup levels include:
- Gasoline
- Diesel
- Benzene
Cleanup
Ecology is working with the port and Chevron to complete a draft cleanup action plan. This plan will outline the recommended cleanup for the Marine Trades Area site (including Pettit Oil). The public will have the opportunity to comment on the plan.
