Site Description
The Site is currently an active public school within the Sunnyside School District. It is surrounded primarily by agricultural areas and several residences to the east, west, and north.
During July 1990, a 10,000-gallon heating oil underground storage tank (UST) was removed. During this removal, a smaller (200-gallon) heating oil UST was discovered. Also during the removal, the fuel lines from the 10,000-gallon UST ruptured and heating
oil flowed freely into the excavation resulting in a release of heating oil.
After a Site Hazard Assessment conducted in 1991, the Site was ranked a “2” on the Hazardous Sites List. The Hazardous Sites List is a statewide list of contaminated properties. Sites can be ranked from a “1” to “5”. A rank of “1” is the highest level of environmental concern compared to other sites on the List, and a rank of “5” is the lowest. This ranking was revised to a “3” in 1994.
