Site Description
The Pet Health Clinic Site is located at 2210-A East Edison Avenue in Sunnyside, Washington and houses a veterinary clinic. Two underground storage tanks (USTs) were historically used to fuel company vehicles and to supply heating oil for the clinic building. A septic drainfield is located on the southern portion of the clinic property.
A release of petroleum products was discovered during the removal of underground storage tanks (USTs) at the site. Petroleum contamination has been confirmed in both soil and groundwater.

What's Been Done So Far?
In 1992 and 1994, the two USTs were removed and petroleum contamination discovered. In 2011 through 2015, Ecology hired a consultant to conduct additional investigation phases to help better determine where the petroleum contamination is located, how much is present, and aid in selecting and designing a cleanup remedy. Contaminants of concern in soil and/or groundwater include: gasoline, diesel, and associated compounds above state cleanup levels in both soil and groundwater. Groundwater is approximately 5 to 7 feet below ground surface.

What's Next?
Ecology will base further actions at the site based on the existing data. Next steps include preparation of a Supplemental Investigation Report (summarizing the 2015 investigation results), Focused Feasibility Study (evaluating cleanup options), and Interim Cleanup Action Plan (describing the recommended cleanup methods), as well as continued groundwater monitoring. The cleanup action will be implemented once funding becomes available.
