The site is the location of a farmyard that formerly contained underground storage tanks.
In 1991, one 8,000-gallon diesel UST was removed from the site, revealing diesel-contamination in the soil around the tank. Contaminated soil was removed to be land-farmed on site until additional excavation posed a threat to an adjacent building and a disruption to farm operations. Soil samples showed diesel concentrations exceeding Method A cleanup levels remained in all four sidewalls of the excavation. Two additional tanks- one 1,000-gallon gasoline and one 8,000-gallon gasoline- were reportedly removed in 1993. However, the tanks were decommissioned and removed without following state requirements.
Ecology collected environmental samples at the site in July 2024 to determine whether contamination related to the historic release of petroleum products was present in soil or groundwater at the site. Soil and groundwater samples were tested for gasoline, diesel, oil, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX), naphthalenes, ethylene dichloride (EDC), ethylene dibromide (EDB), methyl tert-buty lether (MTBE) and lead. Gasoline, xylenes and naphthalene were detected at concentrations above MTCA Method A cleanup levels in soil. Gasoline and diesel were detected at concentrations above MTCA Method A cleanup levels in groundwater. Additional investigation is necessary to determine the extent of contamination in soil and groundwater at this site.
