In 1992, two underground storage tanks (USTs) were removed from the Site. In January 1992, a tank located on the northwest side of South Methow Street across from the Lovitt Mine office building, was removed. Results from soil samples collected beneath this UST showed analytical results of non-detection.
In February 1992, a second UST was removed. This tank was located adjacent to the main building on the east side. Petroleum contaminated soil was evident in the tank cavity and contaminated soil at 9 feet below ground surface was left in place underneath the building.
In 2010, a soil sampling investigation was conducted. Diesel Range Organics were detected above MTCA Method A soil cleanup levels at three boring locations at depths ranging from 26 to 32 feet below ground surface. Groundwater was not encountered in any of the borings. Depth to groundwater on the site is not known but well logs of the surrounding area show that the static level for groundwater varies between 50 to 74 feet below ground surface.
