Study Purpose | This goal of this study is to determine if there is significant mercury contamination in the Sultan River, Swauk Creek, Peshashtin Creek, and the Similkameen River due to a history of small- scale gold mining. Miners used to add elemental mercury to sluice boxes to recover fine particles of gold. Mercury will be analyzed in the water column, suspended sediments, streambed sediments, fish, and invertebrates. |
