Study NameSurface Sediment and Fish Tissue Chemistry in Greater Elliott Bay (Seattle) -Urban Waters Initiative
EIM Data Entry Review StatusNot Reviewed
Study TypeGeneral environmental study
Study PurposeThis project involves collecting surface sediment and fish tissue samples from greater Elliott Bay, Seattle, to fulfill needs or answer questions posed by various regulatory and monitoring programs. Sediment chemistry results were intended to 1) help define contaminant levels representing a local area background, 2) provide an area baseline for chlorinated dioxins and furans, and 3) determine if contaminants differ between 0-3 cm and 0-10 cm sampling intervals. English sole (Parophrys vetulus) tissue samples were also tested for dioxins and furans. This was done to augment the limited data available on these contaminants in Puget Sound bottom fish.
