Study NameWhatcom Creek Temperature Total Maximum Daily Load
EIM Data Entry Review StatusReviewed
Study TypeTotal Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) development
Study PurposeWhatcom Creek exceeded Class A standards for temperature based upon monitoring data taken by the Department of Ecology (DOE) at ambient monitoring station 01E050 between July and September 1994 resulting in listing on Ecology’s 303(d) list in 1996 and 1998. In response to those listings the Washington State Department of Ecology is required to conduct a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) study in Whatcom Creek. The goal of the Whatcom Creek Temperature Total Maximum Daily Load is to characterize the water temperature in the basin and establish load and wasteload allocations for the heat sources to meet water quality standards for surface water temperature.
