Study PurposeThe study characterizes toxic chemicals at the surface and bottom of three Strait of Juan de Fuca and four Puget Sound Basin sites. Additionally, the Nooksack, Skagit, Stillaguamish, Snohomish, and Puyallup Rivers, the five largest rivers entering the Puget Sound are also sampled. The suite of toxic chemicals analyzed for the study include chlorinated pesticides, semivolatiles, PAHs, PCB and PBDE congeners, oil and grease, TPH-diesel, TPH-gas, total and dissolved metals, TOC, DOC, and TSS. The freshwater sampling also included nutrients and hardness. Study data is intended for use in a Puget Sound Toxics Box Model currently under development.
