Study NameClover Creek multiple parameter TMDL
EIM Data Entry Review StatusReviewed
Study TypeTotal Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) development
Study PurposeThe purpose of this study is to assess the 303(d)listings of fecal coliform, temperature, and dissolved oxygen throughout the Clover Creek watereshed including its tributaries. Fecal coliform and temperature are addressed through the TMDL process. Dissolved oxygen is characterized.

Study QA Project Plan DescriptionThe Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) is required under Section 303(d) of the federal Clean Water Act to develop and implement Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for impaired waters of the state. Clover Creek and its tributaries waswere included on the Washington State 303(d) list of impaired water bodieswaterbodies because it does not meet water quality criteria for fecal coliform bacteria, dissolved oxygen, and temperature. The Clover Creek watershed is located in Pierce County, central western Washington, and flows through the City of Tacoma urban growth areas, the city of Lakewood, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, and empties into Steilacoom Lake. As a part of the TMDL for the Clover Creek watershed, this technical study will evaluate the relevant water quality parameters within the watershed during the 2013 - 2014 study period. The goal of this TMDL is to determine the total maximum daily load of pollutants that will allow the water bodies towaterbodies meet water quality criteria. Data collected will form the basis for comparison to the State water quality criteria and development of contaminant load allocations. Using the results of this technical assessment, Ecology will work with local stakeholders to develop an implementation plan that describes what will be done to improve water quality in the Clover Creek watershed. The plan explains the roles and authorities of cleanup partners, along with the programs or other means through which these partners will address these water quality issues. The plan prioritizes specific actions to improve water quality and to achieve Washington State water quality standards.
