Study NameStatus Monitoring for the Upper Yakima River Suspended Sediment and Organochlorine Pesticide TMDL
EIM Data Entry Review StatusReviewed
Study TypeTotal Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) effectiveness monitoring
Study PurposeSamples will be collected bi-weekly from March- November, 2014 at Cherry Creek and Wipple Wasteway, located in the upper Yakima River watershed. Samples will be analyzed for DDT and metabolites and dieldrin as well as TSS and turbidity. Concentrations of these contaminants will be compared to targets from the Upper Yakima River Basin Suspended Sediment and Organochlorine Pesticide Total Maximum Daily Load Evaluation (Joy,2002).
Field Collection Date Range3/25/2014 - 11/24/2014

Study QA Project Plan DescriptionA Suspended Sediment and Organochlorine Pesticide TMDL was established for the Upper Yakima River in 1999. TMDL effectiveness monitoring for total suspended solids and turbidity followed in 2006. A Quality Assurance Project Plan is provided here for status monitoring of DDT compounds and dieldrin, as called for in the TMDL schedule. These chlorinated pesticides and breakdown products will be analyzed in samples collected bi-weekly from the month before through the month after the 2013 irrigation season (March- November). Samples will be collected from Cherry Creek and Wipple Wasteway (also known as Badger Creek), in the Wilson Creek drainage near Ellensburg. Samples will also be analyzed for total suspended solids (TSS) and turbidity as these parameters have been correlated with DDT and dieldrin in the lower Yakima basin (Joy and Patterson, 1997).
