Site Description
The Trident Metals site is located at 1851 Taylor Way in Tacoma. From 1913 - 2003, the property housed a door factory. Trident Metals then used it for metals recycling until they closed in 2011. The property is now vacant.
In 2011, the site was ranked on the Hazardous Sites List because of oily runoff from the site to the Hylebos Waterway and poor hazardous materials management. Trident Metals used an old concrete slab to store metals. During investigations before redevelopment, a new owner found petroleum contamination under the slab.
In 2012, the new owner removed 318 cubic yards of petroleum-contaminated soil from under the slab. Follow-up sampling did not find petroleum contamination above state cleanup levels in soil or groundwater. The site was cleaned up under the Voluntary Cleanup Program.

Removal From The Hazardous Sites List
Ecology reviewed the site cleanup activity and considers the cleanup complete. We held a public comment period on removing the site from the Hazardous Sites List in June - July 2014. We received no comments and are now removing the site from the Hazardous Sites List.

Voluntary Cleanup Program
This site was cleaned up under our Voluntary Cleanup Program, which provides technical help to owners of contaminated sites.
Voluntary Cleanup Program customers pay fees to cover our costs for technical help and reviewing cleanup reports. Sites in this program must meet the same cleanup standards as the sites Ecology manages under legal orders.
