The Washington Department of Ecology works to clean up contaminated properties throughout the state. Cleanup projects vary greatly in size and complexity. Some are small and relatively routine (for example, cleaning up contamination from leaking underground storage tanks). Many cleanups are large, complex projects that require engineered solutions.

This site was identified as having confirmed or suspected contamination that could harm people and the environment. Cleanup under the Model Toxics Control Act is now complete. More information about this site is available by clicking on the links in the right-hand column.

This site was cleaned up under the Voluntary Cleanup Program at Washington State Department of Ecology. The Voluntary Cleanup Program enables owners of contaminated sites to meet state cleanup standards independently and to receive technical guidance from Ecology during the process.

The Voluntary Cleanup Program enables owners to work on a contractual basis rather than under an Ecology legal order. Participants in the Voluntary Cleanup Program pay fees to Ecology to cover the department’s costs for guidance and review. Voluntary Cleanup Program sites must meet the same cleanup standards as properties formally managed by Ecology under the state’s cleanup law, the Model Toxics Control Act, created by a 1989 voter initiative.

Cleanup is complete at the Winger Land Golden Homes Site (Site).

The Site is located at 19647 Viking Way NW, Poulsbo, Washington.

The Department of Ecology is now proposing to remove the Site from the state’s Hazardous Sites List, a statewide record of contaminated properties. The Site underwent a Site Hazard Assessment and was ranked “3” on a scale of 5 where “1” represents the highest risk and “5” is the lowest risk. This ranking estimates the potential threat to human health and the environment relative to other sites in Washington State.
