| Description | To support Lower Duwamish Waterway (LDW) cleanup efforts, total organic carbon (TOC), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and other contaminants were measured in suspended Green River sediment. Centrifuges and sieves collected samples on seven occasions between July 2008 and January 2009. Contaminants were generally greater than measured in bedded sediments upstream of the LDW but less than indicated by water samples. Fine suspended sediments usually had higher concentrations than sand-sized particles. Daily contaminant loading rates were calculated. Lower and upper bounds for annual loading rates and average concentrations were approximated. These values were sensitive to assumptions about contaminant concentrations during highest streamflows. |
