Description | Sediment cores were collected from American Lake, Black Lake, and Upper Twin Lake as part of a long-term study evaluating contaminant trends across the state. Contaminant analyses for 2009 included mercury, lead, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Overlying contaminant trends for each core varied by lake and analyte. American Lake received the greatest historical contamination for all analytes. Contaminant concentrations at all three lakes have declined from their maximums. There were not enough PAH detections at Black or Upper Twin Lakes to describe trends. |
