Description During 2010, the Department of Ecology analyzed lead in suspended particulate matter (SPM) from 15 sites throughout Washington State as part of the third year of a long-term monitoring program.

SPM was collected twice per season (spring and fall), for a total of 60 samples. Lead was detected in 93% of the samples, and concentrations ranged from <1 - 1,091 mg/Kg. Lead levels at the majority of monitoring sites were low (<50 mg/kg). Lead levels were elevated (<100 mg/kg) only at the Spokane River sites and Upper Columbia River.
