Description | In June 2012, the Department of Ecology collected surface sediment from eight sites in the East Waterway of Everett’s Port Gardner. Results provide information on current concentrations in the surface sediment for metals, petroleum hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), base/neutral/acids (BNAs), dioxin/furans, and several conventionals. These data will assist in directing decisions regarding further evaluations for cleanup or restoration. Overall concentrations were low for most parameters. A total of six analytes exceeded (did not meet) criteria: five BNAs and one metal. While dioxin is not included in the Sediment Management Standards, two Dredged Material Management Program benchmark values have been adopted. A Puget Sound background value (4.0 ng/Kg TEQ) and a maximum allowable for open water disposal (10.0 ng/Kg, TEQ) were exceeded at three and two sites, respectively. |
