Description The Tacoma Smelter Plume is a 1,000 square mile area where soils are contaminated with arsenic and lead. The Washington Department of Labor and Industries (LNI) has rules to protect workers from arsenic and lead in the workplace, including employees exposed to soils within the Tacoma Smelter Plume. This fact sheet provides background on the contamination and directs employers to LNI for help complying with state law.
