| Description | Groundwater samples were collected from 34 monitoring wells in the Yakima Railroad Area in May and October 2013. Groundwater within the project area is contaminated with tetrachloroethene (PCE) that is attributed to numerous sources. Cleanup activities at several of the sources appear to have been effective in reducing contaminant concentrations. The primary purpose of this monitoring is to evaluating the effectiveness of these cleanup actions. Fifteen of the sampled wells had PCE concentrations above the MTCA cleanup level of 5 ug/L, with maximum PCE concentrations of 6 to 19 ug/L. Eleven of these wells are located in the central portion of the project area and are screened in the shallow aquifer. Semi-annual groundwater sampling is scheduled to continue to monitor PCE concentrations in the project area. | ||||
