Description The Department of Ecology (Ecology) conducted a study to evaluate the presence of chemicals of high concern to children (CHCCs) in children’s clothing, footwear, and accessories.

Data were collected for enforcement of Washington State’s Children’s Safe Products Act which (1) restricts levels of cadmium, lead, and phthalates in children’s products, and (2) requires manufacturers to report to Ecology if a product contains a CHCC.

Ecology purchased 297 children’s products, and a subset of individual product component samples were submitted for laboratory testing of CHCCs. The resulting data were submitted to Ecology’s enforcement coordinator for assessment of compliance with Washington State laws.
