Author(s) Carey, B.
Description The Department of Ecology conducted a study of groundwater and effluent at the Edison Wastewater Treatment System in Edison, WA. The purpose of the study was to:
• Establish background water quality for nitrate-N, fecal coliform bacteria (FC), and total coliform bacteria (TC) for comparison with conditions downgradient of the drainfields.
• Assess whether Washington State Ground Water Standards (Chapter 173-200 WAC) are being met.
• Reassess performance with regard to antidegradation of water quality

FC and TC results were mostly below detection in groundwater except for February and April 2016, when TC were found in all wells, including the upgradient well. The maximum nitrate-N concentration observed in groundwater was 3.10 mg/L, roughly one-third of the 10 mg/L Ground Water Standard.
