Description This report documents the 2016/17 sampling of the Wenatchee River as a follow-up study to a 2014/15 water quality survey identifying two possible source areas of PCBs to resident biota in the river. Sampling confirmed that two chemically-distinct PCB sources are impacting the lower Wenatchee River: one near the City of Cashmere and the other downstream near the confluence with the Columbia River. Concentrations of PCBs in fish feeding near the downstream (confluence) source are higher than near the upstream source. The chemical profile of each PCB source is consistent over time and between high-flow and low-flow periods. PCB concentrations in resident mountain whitefish continue to be well above (not meeting) Washington State thresholds for fish consumption.
