| Description | Water management projects identified in the programmatic EIS are designed to benefit streamflows in late summer and early fall and institute efficiencies to protect all water uses in the basin. These include conservation, reoperation of existing storage, pump exchanges, new storage, as well as fish passage, screening, and habitat projects. The EIS evaluates five alternatives of project types that are collectively designed to meet the guiding principles, as well as a no-action alternative. Icicle Creek is a major tributary to the Wenatchee River in Chelan County. The Icicle Creek watershed encompasses an area of approximately 212 square miles most of which is undeveloped and resides in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness and the Wenatchee National Forest. Flows from Icicle Creek support a range of demands ranging from domestic waters supply and agricultural irrigation to habitat for fish. Taken together, these demands on the watershed are often greater than the water supply needed to meet them. The Icicle Creek Water Strategy is a cooperative effort by local, state and federal agencies, tribes, irrigation and agricultural interests and environmental organizations to address chronic water supply issues in the Icicle Creek Watershed. Instream flows for fish will more than double under the strategy and additional water supply will be secured for agricultural and domestic use. |
