Description This document is the Environmental Assessment Program (EAP) Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for obtaining freshwater sediment core samples using the two sediment-coring devices available through EAP. This SOP covers sediment collection for studies requiring representative, vertical sediment samples for use in chemical or biological analyses. Sediment core samples are usually divided into cross-section subsamples to provide a chronological history of analytes.
