Description This is the final environmental impact statement for Ecology's Aqueous Film-Forming Foam Collection and Disposal Program.

Aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) is a firefighting foam used to extinguish flammable liquid fires, such as those involving oil or gasoline. While it is an effective fire suppression tool, AFFF contains per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These toxic chemicals do not easily break down and can negatively impact human health and the environment.

This document provides environmental and public health information regarding alternatives for safer disposal of AFFF stockpiled at the state’s municipal fire departments.
