| Description | The Washington State Legislature directed Ecology to engage in a collaborative process on the development of geothermal energy resources. Senate Bill 6039 directs Ecology to identify opportunities and risks associated with the development of geothermal resources in three locations with the highest geothermal potential in Washington. This brief document provides a summary of the first legislative update which was due in June 2026. A final legislative report is due June 30, 2027, and will include additional information on geothermal technologies, siting factors, potential impacts, and regulations. Combined, these reports provide a framework for developing utility-scale geothermal energy in Washington. |
