| Description | The Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) is required to produce this quality system report, as specified in Ecology’s Quality Management Plan. The Plan requires periodic reporting to Ecology management evaluating Ecology’s quality system, identifying quality system issues, and presenting recommendations for quality system improvements. The “quality system” is a structured and documented management system that provides the framework for (1) planning, implementing, documenting, and assessing environmental data operations, and (2) carrying out required quality-assurance and quality-control activities. The quality system encompasses both management and technical activities. This report documents these activities from July 2009 through June 2012. This report contains information on several aspects of the quality system, including: • Developing and approving Quality Assurance Project Plans. • Documenting standard operating procedures. • Quality system initiatives undertaken by Ecology. • Issues encountered while implementing the Quality Management Plan. • Recommendations for changes in the quality system and Quality Management Plan. • Reports on current quality system activities from all Ecology environmental programs.
