Site Background
In the early 1980s, the site began operating as Jerry's Custom Mechanics. A custom paint booth was built behind the building in 1991 but has since been removed.
In 2005, a City of West Richland’s building inspector observed a green sheen on water in an old well casing that was located inside the building. Initially, the green sheen was thought to be antifreeze, but sampling revealed chromium and lead contamination above state cleanup levels and was most likely the result of the painting operations that were performed at the site.

What Has Been Done
In 2018, Ecology funded site investigations at this site through the Model Remedies Grant Program. Site investigations are the process of gathering data about the site and are used to help develop and implement cleanup plans. The Jerry's Custom Mechanics site was selected to receive a portion of the funds.
In 2019, an engineering company, GeoEngineers, performed site investigations and collected soil and groundwater samples. The samples were sent to an accredited lab and the results confirmed no contamination above state cleanup levels remain at the site.
