Boise Cascade Yakima LUST
Facility Site ID:
450
Cleanup Site ID:
4916
Site Description
The site formerly operated as a sawmill. A total of five underground storage tanks have been removed from the facility during two separate events.
December 1989 Tank Removal
Site assessment services were provided by PLSA Engineering & Surveying for the removal of three diesel USTs and one gasoline UST. Excavation activities resulted in two tank basins. Soil samples were collected from the base of each of the tanks; a water sample was also collected from beneath Tank 3. Samples collected from beneath the diesel tanks found no detectable levels of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH). Additionally the sample collected from beneath the gasoline tank found no detectable levels of BTEX.
The excavations were backfilled with clean soil and the stockpiled soil was temporarily placed on plastic with plans to dispose of it offsite. In January 1990, Ecology granted Anderson Disposal Site permission to accept the 2,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil that were excavated from Boise Cascade. There is no information in the file to confirm this occurred.

November 1993 Tank Removal
One 2000-gallon lube oil UST was removed. No obvious holes were observed on the tank. The tank basin extended to a depth of approximately 7 ½ - 8 feet, where groundwater was encountered; the groundwater did not display a sheen.
Three soil samples were collected within the tank basin. The sample results indicate no detectable levels of total petroleum hydrocarbons.

No Further Action Determination
Based upon reported cleanup activities, Ecology has determined the site is no longer a threat to human health and the environment. Ecology made a no further action determination in March 2006.
