The Site is the location of a former feedlot and meat processing plant. 

In November 1993, two 1,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tanks and associated piping and fittings were removed. During tank removal, petroleum contaminated soil (PCS) was noted, due to a leaky fitting. Approximately 3,112 cubic yards of PCS was excavated and taken to Anderson's Rocky Top Decontamination Site for disposal.

During excavation, groundwater was encountered. Contamination was thought to extend below the groundwater surface, so the pit was de-watered to allow for further excavation of PCS.  No free product was observed at the Site.

Grab groundwater samples from the excavation were taken during and following remedial activities.  Contaminants in the groundwater were initially present at levels above MTCA Method A cleanup levels for groundwater; later sampling showed levels below MTCA Method A cleanup levels.

Soil samples taken after pit excavation were analyzed for petroleum.  Contaminant concentrations were below MTCA Method A cleanup levels except for one sample which contained a TPH-Gasoline concentration of 1,100 mg/kg.  This soil was not excavated because of its proximity to a building foundation. 

Based upon cleanup activities conducted at the Site, Ecology has determined the Site is no longer a threat to human health and the environment.  The one remaining soil exceedance, although above the Method A cleanup level, was below the Model Remedy generic TPH concentration of 1,500 mg/kg. 

In March 2020, Ecology issued a No Further Action determination for the Site using Model Remedy No. 5, as identified in Ecology's Model Remedies for Sites with Petroleum Impacts to Groundwater (Publication No. 16-09-057).
