Cleanup Completed

The Today's Family Dentistry site cleanup is completed. Ecology held a public comment period from December 24, 2018, to January 25, 2019, on its proposal to remove the site from the Hazardous Sites List. Ecology received no comments during the comment period and removed the site from the Contaminated Sites List in 2019.

Site Description

Today's Family Dentistry is the site of a former dental office. The site is located in northeast Vancouver, Washington, and the parcel is zoned community commercial.  The property is approximately 0.8 acres and consists of a commercial building, parking lot, and a grass area. The site is located on the west side of NE 112th Ave, south of NE Burton Road, and east of I-205.

Cleanup Site History

In 2010, Clark County Public Health and Ecology tested the on-site septic system and found the tank had waste metals typical of a dental office. In 2014, Ecology put the site on the Contaminated Sites List based on preliminary sampling information.

The property owner, who had entered the Voluntary Cleanup Program, conducted the following cleanup activities at the site:

  • Tested and removed septic tank sludge.
  • Removed the septic tank from the property.
  • Connected the building to the city sewer system.

In 2017, the property owner put four groundwater monitoring wells on the property to see if metal had moved to the soil and groundwater. Results showed that metals were below state cleanup levels. Ecology reviewed the cleanup work and determined the site met state cleanup levels.

Voluntary Cleanup Program

This site was cleaned up under our Voluntary Cleanup Program, which provides technical help to owners of contaminated sites.

Voluntary Cleanup Program customers pay fees to cover our costs for technical help and reviewing cleanup reports. Sites in this program must meet the same cleanup standards as the sites Ecology manages under legal orders.
