Bordeaux Dump Hytec

The Bordeaux Dump site is located at 13434 Halo-Kuntux Lane in Littlerock. It is part of the former Hytec Littlerock cleanup site, which was split in 2009. The other portion of the site is now known as Hytec Fiber Glass Debris Landfill.

Mr. Chauncy Lufkin, president of fiberglass manufacturer Hytec, Inc., purchased the 44-acre site in 1975. In 1976, Hytec was given a county Solid Waste Permit to dispose of fiberglass waste on the site. The company buried fiberglass and polyester resin waste on the north-central part of the 44-acre site.

Ecology first investigated the site in 1990. Groundwater in the Bordeaux Dump had levels of carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (cPAHs) above state cleanup standards. Lead was found in the soil samples above the state cleanup level.

Semi-volatile organic compounds were also found in the dump, but at levels below state standards. Monitoring and drinking water wells in the area had no pollutants above state cleanup standards for drinking water.

The Lufkins removed contaminated soil and debris from the Bordeaux Dump cleanup site, filled the areas with clean soil, and sampled soil to make sure the site was clean. They then monitored groundwater for one year and found no contaminants above cleanup levels.
