Cleanup is Complete
Cleanup is complete at Glenn's Diesel (Site). The Site is located at 14885 State Route 9, Mount Vernon, WA. The Department of Ecology is proposing to remove this from Washington State's Hazardous Sites List.
The Department of Ecology invites you to comment on the delisting. The proposal is based on Ecology's draft No Further Action Letter that describes the Site's cleanup and why Ecology believes cleanup is complete.
Why this cleanup matters
In 2001, contamination from diesel, cadmium, and lead were found in soil samples collected at the Site. These products can be carcinogenic (cancer causing) and harmful to people's health and the environment. The property owners conducted a cleanup of the Site under Ecology's Voluntary Cleanup Program.
The following cleanup activities were performed at the Site:
August of 2014, 3.3 tons of contaminated soil was excavated from the site, and
taken to a permitted facility.
September of 2018, 290 tons of contaminated soil was excavated and taken off-site
to a permitted facility.
Testing of the soil to confirm cleanup.
Following excavation, 24 confirmatory soil samples showed no contamination above State standards in the excavation area. Ecology now believes all of the soil contaminated above the State standards has been removed from the site.

Voluntary Cleanup Program
This site was cleaned up under our Voluntary Cleanup Program, which provides technical help to owners of contaminated sites.
Voluntary Cleanup Program customers pay fees to cover our costs for technical help and reviewing cleanup reports. Sites in this program must meet the same cleanup standards as the sites Ecology manages under legal orders.
