Description Results are reported from 2010 and 2011 monitoring with semi-permeable membrane devices (SPMDs) for persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic substances (PBTs) in Washington waters. Levels of target analytes were low relative to background noise at most sites.

Data from 2007-2011 were evaluated and deemed unusable for trend analysis because of bias in the measurement system, inconsistency in methodology, and high uncertainty with detecting analytes.

An analysis is presented of minimum concentrations of contaminant levels in ambient waters that are necessary before committing to long-term trend monitoring.

Recommendations include improving the reliability and accuracy of the SPMD system.

Appendices G, H, K, and L are linked above as a zip file.
