Description Results are reported for the third year (2009) of monitoring for persistent, bioaccumulative, toxic (PBT) chemicals in Washington waters: Part1: Results from eight sites; Part 2: Quality control results to characterize contamination and variability in the sampling system

PCBs, CPs, and PAHs were detected in all samples and PBDEs in 89%. PCBs were above one or more Washington or EPA water quality criteria at all sites. DDE and toxaphene also exceeded criteria.

The noise in the sampling system appears to mask target analytes at low levels.

Recommendations include refining monitoring goals to site-specific needs and improving various quality control practices.
