Author(s) Sandvik, P.
Description The Trend Monitoring Program sampled 12 sites statewide in its second year for persistent, bioaccumulative toxics (PBT) chemicals. Semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs) were deployed for a one-month period during the spring and fall.

Chemicals frequently detected were PCBs, PBDEs, PAHs, DDT and endosulfan compounds, and pentachloroanisole. The 2008 results were similar to 2007 results in frequency and seasonal detections.

All sites, except the reference site, failed to meet one or more Washington or EPA water quality criteria for PCBs. Other exceedances included DDE, toxaphene, and dieldrin.

Recommendations are provided to modify monitoring sites, improve quality assurance, and standardize data analysis.
