| Description | The Asarco smelter operated in Everett in the early 1900s and caused widespread arsenic and lead contamination in northeast Everett. Ecology has managed cleanup of the most highly contaminated properties since 1999. Cleanup and sampling will continue over the next several years. In the fall of 2013, soil removal will begin on about 23 properties, east and west of East Marine View Drive near 8th and 9th streets. Groundwater sampling will continue throughout the Lowlands in several areas. A report summarizing the recent sampling results will be published by the end of 2013. A Feasibility Study to look at cleanup methods will be done early in 2014. | ||||
