Description | Portions of Budd Inlet do not meet Washington State water quality standards for dissolved oxygen (DO). Poor water circulation, along with anthropogenic nutrient loading, triggers algal growth which eventually decays and depletes DO. A computer model was used to evaluate the impacts of anthropogenic contributions. The combined effects of nonpoint and point sources currently do not meet the pollutant loading capacity of Budd Inlet and Capitol Lake for nutrients in southern Budd Inlet. The effects of Capitol Lake dam, even with only natural nutrient loads, also do not meet DO standards in Budd Inlet. The poster was presented at the Salish Sea Ecosystem conference in Seattle, April 30 - May 2, 2014. |
