| Description | The Department of Ecology’s Marine Monitoring Unit collects pH measurements in conjunction with oceanographic state variables as part of its monthly monitoring program. With the increasing importance of ocean acidification effects, historical pH data are a valuable resource for evaluating changes in water quality and potential impacts on Washington State’s marine systems. These data are distinctive due to their geographic extent, temporal resolution, and historical perspective found solely in this sampling program. A rigorous quality assurance review was conducted on all existing marine pH data having documentation of collection and calibration methods, for data from 1989 to 2013. This report describes the procedures used to conduct quality assurance review on historical data and to be applied to current pH data collected by the program. |
