Description Learn about the contamination and cleanup process at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway Black Tank Property located in the Hillyard neighborhood at 3202 E. Wellesley in Spokane, Washington. The site was formerly a railroad fuel storage and refueling depot. Petroleum products infiltrated soil and groundwater from refueling trains and leaking above-ground storage tanks and associated transfer lines. BNSF, the property owner, and Marathon Oil Company, a former operator, are working with the Washington Department of Ecology to develop a cleanup plan for the site.
