| Description | The Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) is one of Washington’s principal environmental laws that helps protect the health of our residents and environment. Model remedies are standardized cleanup methods designed to help speed up the cleanup of contamination resulting from the improper use or disposal of hazardous waste. This report summarizes the progress made by Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) to establish model remedies under MTCA. It describes: a) how MTCA and model remedies facilitate contamination cleanups in Washington; b) which model remedies were used before 2013 and the new ones developed since then; c) how Ecology engaged the public in the development process; d) opportunities to use model remedies in the future; and e) Ecology’s next steps. This one-time report was produced in response to legislative requirements outlined in MTCA, Chapter 70.105D.030(4) RCW. |
