Qualifier Code Help Page

Below is a list of the value qualifier codes and their descriptions that can be used on your reported discharge monitoring report. This list may not contain the same codes used by your lab, so please double check the codes and their descriptions before using them on your DMR.
Qualifier CodeQualifier Short DescriptionExtended Description
EEstimated value (exceeded calibration range)Reported result is an estimate because it exceeds the calibration range.
GEstimated minimum value (result likely higher)Value is likely greater than result reported; result is an estimated minimum value.
JApproximate concentration (positively identified)The analyte was positively identified; the associated numerical value is the approximate concentration of the analyte in the sample.
NTentatively identified as presentThe analysis indicates the present of an analyte for which there is presumptive evidence to make a “tentative identification”.
NJApproximate concentration (tentatively identified)The analysis indicates the presence of an analyte that has been “tentatively identified” and the associated numerical value represents its approximate concentration.
NAFNot analyzed forNot analyzed for.
NCNot calculatedNot calculated.
REJUnverified presence or absence (cannot meet QC criteria)The sample results are rejected due to serious deficiencies in the ability to analyze the sample and meet quality control criteria. The presence or absence of the analyte cannot be verified.
UNot detected at or above the reported QLThe analyte was not detected at or above the reported sample quantitation limit.
UJNot detected at or above the reported approximate QLThe analyte was not detected at or above the reported sample quantitation limit. However, the reported quantitation limit is approximate and may or may not represent the actual limit of quantitation necessary to accurately measure the analyte in the sample.
