Description |
Results are summarized for three areas in Washington: mid-Columbia River, McNary National Wildlife Refuge, and Liberty Lake. Washington’s water quality standards for contaminants in fish tissue were met for most of the chemicals analyzed. However, many samples failed to meet standards for 4,4’-DDE, t-PCBs, and dioxins/furans. In the Columbia River, levels of 4,4’-DDE in fish significantly increased in Lake Pateros where the Okanogan River enters, and continued increasing downstream into Lake Entiat before decreasing in the Wenatchee Reach. Sampling at McNary National Wildlife Refuge showed elevated levels of t-DDT, t-PCB, and dieldrin in fish from waters directly connected to the Snake and Columbia Rivers. Walleye from Liberty Lake did not meet Washington’s standards for total PCBs, 4,4’-DDE, and dioxins/furans. |
